Beauty Industry Involvement
Allied Beauty Association is a strong advocate for the beauty industry in every way that it can be.
Below are just a few of the ways the ABA has been giving back to the industry that has been so crucial to it’s development.
Advertising Standards Canada
The ABA is one of the founding members of Advertising Standards Canada for the Beauty Industry.
Canadian Training Company
In 2017, Allied Beauty Association partnered with Canadian Training Company to being creating an education portal that will allow ABA members to get educated and update their skills online. This portal will be launched in the fall of 2017, more details to come!
Cosmetics Alliance Ltd. (Formerly CCTFA)
The Allied Beauty Association works hand in hand with Cosmetics Alliance to become a strong voice for the beauty industry when addressing common concerns within the beauty industry.
Green Circle Salons
We are pleased to inform you that we have connected with an important movement in our industry and showing our commitment to sustainability by diverting all the hair and metals (empty colour tubes, foils) used during our trade shows.
Our industry creates over 20,000 tonnes of waste every single year, which has a huge negative consequence on our planet. As we are showcasing the professional Beauty industry at these trade shows, we believe it is our responsibility to support positive green change in our industry. We have partnered with Green Circle Salons, an organization dedicated to provide solutions to help salons reduce their environmental footprint with a mission to make the professional beauty industry 100% sustainable by the year 2020.
In order to facilitate the collection of the hair and metal waste at our trade shows, a representative from Green Circle Salons will provide stages with a bin for hair only and a bin for metals only (empty colour tubes and foils, no need to rinse). Green Circle Salons will collect the bins at the end of the show and ensure that the materials are properly treated. The hair is re-used in the cleanup of oil spills and the metals are processed by a specialized centre that treats chemicals and is fully recycled into low-grade or scrap metals.
We encourage you to promote this initiative throughout our salon/spa network!
Look Good Feel Better
The ABA’s charity of choice is Look Good Feel Better, an amazing charity with the strong belief that ‘an improved self-image can help lift women’s spirits and nurture hope, helping them face their illness with greater confidence.’ More than 70% of each dollar raised goes directly to the LGFB workshop and educational programs, allowing them to share empowering information with women with cancer. These free workshops are currently offered in over 100 cancer care facilities and hospitals across the country. The ABA is a Gold Supporter of LGFB, and provides the opportunity for them to be at every trade show held, so that they can spread their message to as many people as possible.
Ontario College of Trades
The Allied Beauty Association is committed to increasing the professionalism of the beauty industry. We have joined forces with the Ontario College of Trades to have a voice in their new standardization initiative that will begin to eliminate unlicensed hairdressers from the workforce, leaving more room for professional, licensed stylists.
Red Seal Trades
The Allied Beauty Association, in conjunction with other provincial associations across Canada, has been working with Red Seal to standardize hairdressing across the country. Our long-term goal is to allow a hairdresser from any province to be able to move provinces and still have their license recognized without having to re-take their exam.
